Sun Acquired MySQL database company.
Sun Microsystems enters into the enterprise database market with the announcement of a proposed $1 billion acquisition of MySQL, an open-source database software company.
Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz calls the "most important acquisition in the company’s history," makes Sun one of the first major public companies to offer open-source software and puts the company head to head with the three big vendors in the $15 billion database market

Oracle announced to acquire BEA for 8.5 billion dollar.
On January 16, 2008, Oracle announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire BEA Systems, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise application infrastructure solutions. The proposed transaction is subject to closing conditions, including regulatory, shareholder and other approvals. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently, and it is business as usual.
