Browser Battle is Hot Again - Google Chrome is here

Microsoft IE & Netscape Communicator
I recall the old days back in 1998 when Netscape, IE & Opera were tough competitors. Microsoft IE could get straight business because of Windows OS penetration. Microsoft Internet Explorer almost killed the Netscape and remained top position for so many years. Until Firefox picked up and started competing. I always had sympathy with Mark Anderseen, the man who invented Mosaic, First Internet Browser of the world and then formed Netscape communications. Netscape Communications was dissolved and taken over by AOL and Sun Microsystems.

Open Source Firefox
Firefox browser is developed by open source community and started great features like tabbed browsing and pluggable components and themes. Still Firefox is not having good market because of awareness. In fact google helped firefox community to increase penetration by bundling Google toolbar along with that. Firefox is available on multiple operating system like windows, linux and mac.

Apple Safari - From Mac to Windows & iPhone
Safari browser is developed by Apple. When Apple realized that they are having great browser, but it is only available on Mac OS, they decided to go by quick time way. Just like quick time is available on windows, why not browser on windows. So Apple Safari is available on Mac OS, Windows, Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. If you develop applications around safari, they are ensured on these many platforms. Ultimately Apple wants its lost pie from Microsoft.

Odd man out - Opera
Opera has been consistent and fastest browser. They removed the commercial aspect from the browser and made it available free for the first time. Biggest USP of opera has been that it is very fast and available on plenty of mobile devices.

New wave begins - Google Chrome
Here comes Google Chrome. This time Google is utilizing its market share to penetrate Chrome. What is claimed to be very light weight and application centric browser. JavaScript v8 is fast. This helps more of Application development rather than web site development. AJAX execution is now truly multi threaded.
