I have realized that I could have done better if I had followed
somethings more strictly. I want to share those here:
- Don't think that you are crystal clear with concepts until you write
code. Rather than writing complex code, try to write lots of simple code
to verify your understanding of concepts.
- If you are preparing for Java5 then be sure to be ultra clear with
generics, boxing and covariant return types.
- The concept of static imports and jar files appears simple and the
chapter becomes most neglected in front of other bigger concepts but
questions get tricky when they combine those with various compiler options
and classpaths. And believe they are the questions that are most easy to
score if only little bit more effort is put.
- There could be lots of printing mistakes even from best of publishers.
The errors are not even noticed in the first or second reading of your
preparation book. Updating your book with the errata offered on
publisher's website is helpful as that also brings to your notice small
hidden things that would have gone unnoticed otherwise.
- In the exam, while you re-attempt those questions that appeared tough
in the first attempt, it always helps to save time by catching the thought
process where you left it in the first attempt. Otherwise you will have to
re-read the question and think that why some options were wrong and some
appeared right. To do so, when you leave the question after first
attempt, always write all the options that you think are right on your
rough sheet. And in those options say you can underline the option that
you consider most appropriate. This way when you re-visit the question,
you will remember that which options are probable to be correct and that
too which one of them is most right. Chances are you will also remember
the reason for why you found out that option to be most probable. This
saves time as you can skip re-reading the question and thinking about the
wrong options.
- Time management- I solved 50% of questions in 2/3 of time and rest 50%
in remaining 1/3 of time. This showed lack of how I managed time. I had a
strategy but I couldn't implement it because I had not practised that
strategy while giving my mock exams. So try to give mock exams with the
same planning and in same conditions like the real exam.
- Atleast give 4-5 mock exams. More important than giving the mock exam
is analysing the answers after the exam. Try to know that why you were
wrong and play with the answer options by writing and running the code.
